ORGANISERS of a special auction of pledges to raise money for Children's Hospice South West last weekend said they were delighted with the success of the event.

The Yelverton Friends of the Children's Hospice group organised the auction, which took place in Walkhampton Village Hall on Saturday. More than 139 lots were on offer, ranging from theatre tickets and hampers to a meal for two at the 2 Michelin starred Nathan Outlaw restaurant at Rock.

At the end of the evening, taking into account the auction, raffle and ticket sales, the profit made for the hospice was a splendid £7,256.22.

Friends treasurer Carol Portlock said: 'This sum is more or less the same figure that we made two years ago, which is absolutely amazing when you consider how hard times are now.'

The group would like to thank everyone who pledged lots for the auction, attended the event on the night and extended special thanks to Neil Woolcock of Ward and Chowen Auctioneers for his hard work and generous support.
