DJM Royal Oak U16 league cup semi final
Railway Beacon 0
Tavistock Thistles 2
AFTER a bright opening five minutes from Thistles they allowed Beacon to have the better of the first half for the most part. Too often Thistles were second to the ball or beaten in the challenge but however, to their credit Thistles worked hard to retain their shape and this helped them to reach the interval at 0-0.
In the second half Thistles were more competitive and gradually wore Beacon down to take control. In the final 15 minutes of normal time Thistles became the dominant side, playing decent football, getting the ball wide and producing some neat approach play despite the ever deteriorating surface.
In the latter stages Thistles struck the woodwork a couple of times and forced good saves by the Beacon keeper but they were unable to make the breakthrough and so the game went in to extra time.
The game remained goalless at the midway point of extra time. Eventually Thistles got their deserved two goals to win this hard fought encounter and take their place in the final.
It was leading scorer Glenn Tremblett who got the goals, the second being a neat finish from some 20 yards past the advancing keeper.
This was a real team with manager Mark Erickson full of praise for his side.
