Woolwell Juniors U16s 6

WOOLWELL pressed forward from the start and ensured the Thistles' defence of Ed Argles, Cadan Lowther, Jay Lambert and Louis Wilson were kept on their toes, with keeper Jack Haigh keeping the Woolwell strikers at bay. Nick Cunningham, making his debut, stuck to the task well of marking Woolwell's key player.

Josh Vernon ran tirelessly in the lone striker role and Jonny Hake, Robin Jones, Sam Newton and Sam Walker fought for possession in midfield — and for 30 minutes the deadlock remained unbroken.

Then disaster struck for Tavistock, as Argles made a crunching tackle to prevent a dangerous Woolwell attack, but unfortunately, he fell awkwardly, fracturing his collarbone and had to be taken to hospital. Shortly after Woolwell took the lead and doubled this on the stroke of half-time.

Tom Parry came on to replace Argles and worked hard down the left wing but Woolwell stretched their lead with some flowing football. Frustratingly for Tavistock the visitors added two more goals in the dying moments of the match.

Tavistock Thistles U15s 3

THISTLES started this match dominating the opening 15 minutes.  Chances came and went but the visitors did have one goal to show for their efforts, when Steve Price headed home Glenn Tremblett's long throw in.

Woodford got themselves going and the match became more even.  But it was Thistles who continued to create the scoring opportunities with their forwards of Tremblett and Kaine Withers each being frustrated by the impressive Woodford keeper. Minutes before the break Thistles deservedly doubled their lead when Tremblett neatly lobbed the advancing Woodford keeper as he latched on to a Josh Surface through pass.

Woodford started the second half brightly and reduced the arrears but  Thistles re-established their their goal cushion thanks to a close range effort from Josh Drummond.

Each side continued to look to attack wherever possible.  With 15 minutes left a Woodford player hit a cracking 20 yard shot that was excellently tipped around the post by Thistles' keeper Sean Gill.  This proved vital as minutes later Woodford did find the net to reduce their deficit to 2-3 but Thistles fully deserved the victory.

Keyham Colts 2

THE home side started brightly, and with the strike force of Aaron Johnson and Dan Dawes leading the line well, created a host of chances. Horrabridge opened the scoring after 10 minutes when Max Burgess's corner was fiercely volleyed home by Dawes from six yards.

Keyham came straight back to score after the restart, when Fisher tapped home from close range. They had a chance to take the lead minutes later, but Oliver Cox again showed his class with a superb double save to deny Fisher once more.

The rest of the half belonged to Horrabridge as the midfield of Burgess, David Milligan, Courtney Fry and Josh Birch began to stretch Keyham and the home side added their second goal when Dawes' close range shot hit the post and Birch was on hand to fire in the rebound.

Birch was involved in his team's third goal when he did well to cross the ball for Johnson, who volleyed home at the near post. The final goal of the half came when Max Burgess's through ball enabled Dawes to burst clear of the visitors' defence and fire past the advancing keeper.

The visitors started the second half strongly and scored after five minutes, when Fisher headed home from six yards. Keyham continued to attack Horrabridge but the defence of Northam, Glanville, Dyke and Bailey stood strong. Horrabridge started to pass the ball well and Dawes went on to complete his hat-trick by slotting the ball past the keeper from 10 yards.

Aaron Johnson added a sixth five minutes later when he fired home at the back post after good work from Burgess. The seventh came when Milligan's superb through ball sent Courtney Fry racing clear and his shot was well saved by the keeper, but Billy Rawlinson was on hand to fire home the loose ball.

AFC Plympton U12s 6

AFTER two great victories, Thistles were brought back down to earth with a bang, and the valiant efforts of defenders Jordan Seward, Tom Calvert, Tom Keane and Josh Walker were in vain as a rampant Plympton side put six goals past the unlucky keeper, Isaac Jeffrey.

Thistles' player of the match Jack Hopwood tried to rally his team. Ollie Jerrett and Arran McDowell both went close as Tavistock looked to open their account, and Toby Scanlan went closer still as his efforts were twice denied by the woodwork.
