DJM Royal Oak U15s Tavistock Thistles 1 Plymouth Trophyman 3 TAVISTOCK went behind after just five minutes in a physical contest. Midfielders Jonny Hake, Rob Wearing, Sam Newton and Cadan Lowther endeavoured to play football despite the efforts of their opponents. Goalkeeper, Jack Haigh, was not so lucky when he took the full force of a late challenge. Moments later, a dazed Haigh was beaten by a long range shot which swerved awkwardly in a strong wind. Thistles persevered, but despite hard running by Scottie Reroma, Sam Walker, Louis Wilson and Sam Hortopp they were unable to create any clear chances. Shortly into the second half Trophyman scored their third, after Haigh released the ball in order to protect himself from another sliding challenge. However, Thistles heads didn't drop and they began to create some chances, but shots from Tom Parry and Jonny Hake failed to trouble the keeper. Defenders Ed Argles, Jay Lambert, Robin Jones and Ben O'Neill showed tremendous spirit as they endeavoured to keep Trophyman at bay. After Lambert skilfully guided the ball back to Haigh who launched the ball upfield — it was flicked on to Parry, who coolly slotted the ball past the keeper. DJM U14s Plymouth Plymouth Falcons 2 Callington Colts 2 THIS match can only be seen as two points dropped for Callington as again they failed to deliver the killer punch in a match they truly deserved to win. Dean Wilson's long goal kick for Colts caught out the home defence and Robert Cleveland raced through to steer home the opener. Two more chances fell Callington's way in quick succession with Lewis Russell having the better opportunity but saw his header just clear the crossbar with the keeper beaten. On their first real attack Falcons bundled the ball over the line to level. Early in the second half as Callington failed to settle into a sort of routine, the home side went ahead and could have furthered their lead but for some good keeping from Chris Bird. Cleveland rounded the keeper to make it 2-2 and the last 15 minutes Colts were encamped in the home half. DJM U13 Hermes Morley Rangers 2 Tavistock Town 3 TAVISTOCK returned to winning ways against Morley. They started well on a large pitch in blustery conditions and took the game to Morley. Town had some early chances, but some wayward finishing and good defending by the home team kept the score line blank. The early pressure told on 14 minutes when Hicks outpaced the home defence to slot home. Four minutes later Northmore added the second when he hooked the ball home from a corner. However, within a minute Morley were back in the game when Tavistock gave their forwards too much time in the box and Scrivener was beaten from 12 yards. Morley levelled the scores in fortunate circumstances when a cross caught the wind and sailed into the net. In the second half Tavistock again took the game to Morley and created a number of chances to extend the lead. With Scrivener a virtual spectator in the Tavistock goal, Town created a number of chances to score, but a combination of poor finishing and decision making kept Morley in the game. DJM U12 Warspite Chaddlewood Miners 2 Tavistock Thistles 3 THISTLES edged a thrilling game thanks to a fine header from Joe Mitchell with virtually his first touch of the game. In a tense match it was the home side that took the lead and it wasn't until midway through the first half when David Milligan added to his goal tally that Thistles started to establish themselves. An own goal by Chaddlewood just before the end of the half meant Thistles took a well deserved lead into the break. Unfortunately this didn't last long and it was all square shortly after the restart. There was more drama as keeper Josh Monger took a heavy knock after coming out bravely to thwart the oncoming Chaddlewood striker. Bravely he was able to carry on. Following numerous chances at either end a deflected shot resulted in a corner from which George Dean whipped the ball in to be met by Joe Mitchell with a powerful header for the Thistles' winner.
