Okehampton U15s 70

Bideford U15s 0

IN an ill-matched game, the Okes came out and gave a clinical performance which left Bideford often on the back foot.

Player of the match R Lee, from the opening kick put in an opportunistic grubber kick from Bideford's spilled ball to run in and score directly under the posts. From the restart he again crossed the try line.

The try tally continued in the first half with tries from Heard, Johnson, Nash, Vincent and Squire crossing the line.

In the second half the free flowing game continued with the forwards moving the ball out wide, turning the ball over and utilising our backs to the full.

Tries from Bickley, Cooper, Crowhurst and Ponsford followed. Ponsford kicked five conversions.

All credit to the players for their continued commitment, especially Mortimore for some crunching tackles. Thanks to the Oke players who helped out by playing for part of the match for Bideford.

Tavistock U14s 12

Bude U14s 48

AFTER a difficult start to the season Tavistock welcomed Bude to Sandy Park in bright conditions that provided an excellent backdrop for an open game.

The encounter started well for the home team when Will Slater on return from a long term injury crossed for an unconverted try in the opening seconds of the match.

However it was not long before a strong and fast Bude side managed to beat the Tavistock defensive line and touchdown to take the lead. Two further scores came for Bude in the first half as Tavistock found it hard to cope with the pace and size of the visitors as they broke from deep, and their forward possession close to the line. They did however do well in the set pieces and in lose play up front and some good back play led to a try from Cameron McGurk on his debut and a conversion by Rory Springbett to make it close at half time with just seven points between the teams.

In the second half the home team found it increasingly more difficult to compete in open play as the strength and stamina of the Bude players started to give them a significant advantage. Several tries came from Bude's free running backs and pack, but the Tavistock boys did well in defence to save further scores as they tired.

Although this was another defeat in a tough campaign to date there are signs of improvement in the forwards and backs and all round team play, and with further players to return shortly there is still much to play for in the rest of their campaign.

Bideford  U13s 0

Okehampton U13s 32

STARTING with a few different combinations the Okes took a while to find their feet but after 10 minutes they started passing the ball to the wings resulting in two good tries scored by Matt Dennis - one of which was converted by Jacob Horn.

The second half saw the Bideford forwards competing well and slowing the Okes supply of quick ball but after making sure all the replacements were switched into the game, four more tries followed — one by Callum Hughes and three by Brandon Horn. The last of Brandon's tries was the best of the game, with the ball being linked well through twelve pairs of hands to score wide out.

Tavistock U11s 14

Newton Abbot U11s 19

TAVISTOCK began the game strongly with some disruptive tackling, resulting in an early try for Ali who ran round the outside to score a try in the corner. This was duly converted by Harrison.

As the first half progressed, the ruck and mauls became highly contested, with both teams showing great commitment to winning the ball.  Jack and Jake were particularly aggressive.

The Tavistock scrum also found it tougher than last week against a well drilled team and it was from good ball that Newton Abbot scored two tries before half time, converting one.

In the second half Newton Abbot scored another try early on. However, the Tavistock scrum started to work better, which allowed for some strong and direct running from their backs but a breakthrough was a long time coming. With the last play of the game Jack scored in the corner, again converted by Harrison.  Player of the match for Tavistock was Jake for his strong tackling all game.

Okehampton U11s 7

Sidmouth U11s 7

OKEHAMPTON U11s just about managed to hold on to their unbeaten season as they produced a lacklustre performance against their East Devon visitors.

Oke started strongly and took a deserved first half lead through a Leon Horne try which was converted by Corey Holliday. However, they failed to turn their first half superiority, particularly in the scrum, into a sizeable enough lead to defend uphill in the second period.

Sidmouth took advantage of some weak home tackling to level the scores in the second half, and with Oke failing to ruck effectively the home side spent most of the rest of the match on the defensive. There were some plus points though, one being a fine tackling effort from Adam Wonnacott who put in several thumping hits. Oke brought on all their subs and the game ended up all square, although Okehampton know they will need to play better at next week's Exeter based tournament if they want to come away with any silverware.

Sidmouth U10s 20

Okehampton U10s 20

OKEHAMPTON U10s had to play slightly uphill and as in previous matches they started slowly. This allowed Sidmouth to score two early tries. Despite this the visitors knuckled down and the rest of the first half was a really hard fought match.

Once again, the visitors srummaging (Brad, Alex and Will) was excellent and both Kai and Gareth played well at scrum half, delivering fast ball to their waiting team mates. Good work from all of the team allowed Oke to keep possession and eventually this was rewarded by Nathan crossing the try line twice before half time.

Sidmouth came out attacking from the whistle in the second half, going over the line to leave Oke trailing by two tries. To their credit, the Oke team held together and pushed forward, seeing Daniel turning and spinning to win vital ground.

Dai Chi showed a fantastic turn of speed and was also very active in defence, covering his own line quickly and effectively.

Oke found the strength in this physical, full on game, to come back and level the score line in the second half with another 2 tries from the prolific Nathan Tomkins. Daniel Turner was awarded player of the match for Okehampton.

A second game was held with both coaches substituting some players to bring on fresh legs. As in the first match, Dai Chi displayed some superb tackling skills and Oke made it to the Sidmouth try line only to be held up time and again by great defensive work from the home team. Sidmouth proved too strong and won 20-0.

Sidmouth U9s 15

Okehampton U9s 20

AFTER two hard fought matches the sides shared the spoils, winning a game apiece.

Sidmouth started the stronger using their big forwards to drive the ball but Oke responded in typical fashion by meeting force with force. Cole Pengelly and James Stevens led from the front both putting in some great tackles.

Charlie Glanville, Ethan Wilds, Ben Wharton, Jake Laing-Taylor, James Close, George Cox and Daniel Tomkins all aquitted themselves well around the pitch. David Smith, Liam Daintree, Matthew Denning and Daniel Wonnacott all carried the ball well while Saul Holiday made some good tackles from scrum half. Joshua Burgoyne put in a much improved all round performance, poaching two interception tries. Will Cunningham proved a match winner out stripping the Sidmouth defence to score two tries using his electric pace.

Harry Laing-Taylor showed real power in the maul area ripping the ball from Sidmouth hands to score two great breakaway tries.

Sidmouth U9s 25

Okehampton U9s 10

THE Okes let themselves down in the second game making some very basic mistakes. This week Okes U9s play Crediton.

Sidmouth U8s 21 tries

Okehampton U8s 12 tries

OKEHAMPTON U8s travelled to East Devon last Sunday to play a good match which resulted in a win to the home side. The Okes got off to a slow start but Dylan Watling and Jay Jenkins scored a try each in the first quarter.

All four quarters of play were won by Sidmouth, however Okehampton showed great skill at times.

Try scorers for the visitors were Jay Jenkins (4) Dylan Watling (3) Jacob Smith (2), plus Oliver Johns and James Fishleigh. All the players worked well as a team.

Paignton U8s 16

Okehampton U8s 11

Okehampton showed their best performance this season against a well disciplined Cherries side.

Okehampton scored two early tries following blistering runs down the wing by Jay Jenkins and Edward Luke. Paignton pulled back level but only after breaking through some good defensive work by the Okes.

With excellent team work and supporting play on both sides it was point for point with Jay Jenkins and Dillon Nicholas scoring two tries each to match Paignton before Oliver Johns put Okehampton in the lead again at 7-6. Paignton though levelled just before the break.

In the second half Okes' Oliver Johns showed real class to break though twice and score - ably supported by Jay Jenkins and Dylan Watling. Tom Chapman had a try disallowed before Paignton scored twice. There were two more Oke tries from Luke and Dillon Nicholas but the win went to Paignton.

Tavistock U8s 6 tries

Ivybridge U8s 8 tries

TAVISTOCK lost after a valiant effort. Right from the whistle attacks were made by Tom, Ted, Liam and Isaac, which resulted in first half tries.

Despite being in some cases, half the size of their opposition, Tavistock continued to put maximum effort into their defence, with Jack Lane outstanding, well supported by Joe, Liam, William and Jacob. In the second half, Ivybridge's size began to tell, but led by Jack and Joe, Tavistock struck back with tries for Joe, Jack, Toby and Isaac.

Any year three 3 boys or girls, especially from Whitchurch, St Peters and Tavistock primary are welcome at TRFC. Please call James Mills on 01822 616862.

Sidmouth U7s 3 tries

Okehampton U7s 5 tries

OKEHAMPTON's blue team scored a couple of early tries scored by Llew and Ethan. Sidmouth pressurised Oke into  some handling mistakes and  scored a couple of well worked tries. However Okehampton support game put them back on top. Okes tries  from  Holly 1, Ethan 1, Aedan 1, Llew 1 and Marcus 1.

Sidmouth U7s 6 tries

Okehampton U7s 6 tries

THE second blue saw Sidmouth scoring three quick tries but Okes regrouped and Christopher replied with a superb try in the corner. Further Oke tries were scored by Marcus 3, Aedan 1 and Ethan 1 — thanks to a great team effort.

Sidmouth U7s 6 tries

Okehampton U7s 5 tries

OKE's red team started well with some great running. William and Joe ran very well and were well supported by all. There was some good tagging from Issac, Adam and Jeremy. Oke tries were scored by Joe (2), William, Alex and Adam.

Sidmouth U7s 4 tries

Okehampton U7s 7 tries

GREAT tagging from the whole red team saw Oke take control early on, with Joel and Alex leading the way. Okehampton scored four un-answered tries in the first half from William, Adam, Joel and Joe.

The second half was more even with some great tagging needed from William, Adam and Alex. Oke then took control with great supported running leading to a try from Alex and Joe completing his hat-trick.

n THE Mount House rugby first XV played well to win two rugby matches - Hall Grove preparatory school near Bagshot in Surrey and against fellow Devon side St Michael's.

Against the touring team as the first half wore on, the Mount House forwards began to dominate the close play in the scrum and the line-out. The home side opened the scoring when from a scrum Ben Hoolash was stopped five metres short but he released the ball quickly to the on-rushing Billy Lambeth to touch down; Lambeth then kicked the conversion for a hard-fought 7-0 victory.

Against St Michael's Mount had to supply their opponents with seven players to enable the game to take place. A try from Mount's Anthony Hayward was cancelled out by St Michael's but further tries from Ben Hoolash and Wilf Hadow, together with two conversions by Billy Lambeth saw Mount House stretch out to what was, in the end, a comfortable 24-5 win.
