THE collection I undertook on behalf of the Environmental Investigation Agency at Safeway on December 9 last produced £273.54.

An excellent result for the charity which is, I believe, little known generally. Many thanks to those who responded to the cause.

During the collection it was evident that there was great support for the EIA's work and an eagerness to help set up a support group.

The EIA's work involves important environmental issues such as the preservation of specified rainforests, the tiger population and a campaign to stop bear hunting in British Columbia to name but a few. It also sponsors an elephant reserve in Mozambique.

It may be that some of your readers are interested in this vital and sometimes dangerous work carried out by a small but active group of dedicated campaigners who often work under cover to record, report on and present evidence of trading in precious animal parts to appropriate governments and urging them to enforce bans on these unacceptable practices.

I would be very pleased to hear from anyone sensitive to these and other issues who can help by either writing letters to certain governments not to condone these practices, or helping to raise funds.
