IT APPEARS that with each monthly meeting of the planning committee at West Devon Borough Council controversial decisions continue to be taken.
The meeting held on June 6 was no exception with the decision, as reported in the Times (June 15), taken by the borough council planning committee to ignore officers' recommendation to refuse planning permission to extend the boundary of the corner of Sycamore Avenue.
Not only does this decision create a precedent in giving up amenity land but with the comments made by Cllr Eberlie as to the poor maintenance provided by the borough council that there is a case to be made that where other borough council land is not properly maintained then there may be an opportunity for this to be purchased by a member of the public.
I would suggest that Cllr Eberlie together with Cllr Matthew, who in addition to being the local councillor for Bishopsmead is also chairman of the planning committee at West Devon Borough Council, that they should have performed their roles as local councillors and insisted that the borough council maintain this land to an acceptable standard. Their failure to do this has resulted in amenity land being lost to the residents of Bishopsmead.
