TAVISTOCK travelled to Brixham hoping their new shirts, sponsored by the Ordulph Arms and Hillborn Fencing, would inspire them to victory. Unfortunately the score-line does not do this game justice as both teams played well especially in the dreadful weather.
From the kick-off Tavistock held much of the possession with excellent rucking from the forwards and great defence from the backs.
Despite the ground Tavistock held the scrums well even managing to win several balls against the head. Fine driving play by Claire White, Polly Dawe, Mandy Blackmore and Wiz Francis meant Tavistock came within a couple of feet of the Brixham try line on a number of occasions but were unlucky not to score.
As weather conditions worsened the second half began with what Tavistock thought was a great try by prop Claire White after an excellent run, but this was disallowed by the referee, claiming a double movement.
Tavistock tried to open the game with fly half Kate Blake calling many variations of backs moves and with good running from centres Tracey Stevens and Helen King made good ground. Winger Claire Kelly was unlucky not to score after an excellent run.
Brixham never got through the Tavistock defence due to great tackles from both backs and forwards alike especially from Emily John and Kerry Friend.
Tavistock's next game is at home to Plymouth Uni on November 5.
