I have been remiss in taking so long to write to you regarding the appalling mess that has been made of the Whitchurch to Grenofen Road. A good country road has been transformed into a dangerous and frustrating eyesore which appears to have benefited no-one.

I cannot understand how those, acting on behalf of the tax paying members of the local community, have agreed to budget in excess of £16k of our money on this unpopular and dangerous 'enhancement'. I find it difficult to believe that it can really be considered of particular benefit to the occassional cyclist or pedestrian, when it starts and ends in isolation, halfway between Whitchurch and Grenefon.

Someone has worked wonders with their slide-rule ensuring the modification is of sufficient length, so that approaching motorists cannot see oncoming traffic until they are committed to the narrow lane. The 'passing bays' (at 4.5m approx) are in places too small for two large cars to pass easily, let alone two vans.

Confronting a lorry causes a major problem and often several cars must reverse in unison. The inability to 'negotiate' this stretch of road leaves users annoyed and is leading to aggressive driving, particularly on approaching these 'road works'.

The dubious aim of restricting traffic on what was a perfectly good road, has meant that the already overcrowded A386 is even busier, and what was a pleasant road across Plaster Down and Whitchurch Down is fast becoming a short-cut race track.

I would like to add my support to all those who have already written to you, requesting the removal of this contentious and ill-conceived eyesore.
