Okehampton 3rds 1 Honiton Town 2 WITH the team missing a few of its first team players due to injuries and call up to the seconds this match was always going to be a difficult encounter for Okehampton. Okehampton kicked off and lost possession, gifting the away side an early chance which they wasted. This seemed to be the spark for Okehampton to dominate the first half, with good chances coming the way of Darren Prowse and Shaun Hiscock. Okehampton were to suffer bad luck when a rare Honiton attack led to an uncharacteristic mistake from the otherwise inspired Elliott, leading to an easy tap in for Honiton. Okehampton came back strongly from the kick off. After the keeper could only parry a stinging strike the ball fell to the feet of Scott Ditchburn but he could only hit the post with an empty net at his mercy. After a couple of half time changes Okehampton came back determined to take the game to Honiton. They dragged and stretched the Honiton defence to all corners of the pitch. A superb move resulted in a goal for the second half substitute Dan. But the game changed on one dubious call by the referee. He awarded a free kick to Honiton just inside the Okehampton half and the midfielder strode up to deliver a pinpoint ball to his centre half?s head who directed his header out of the reach of the goalkeeper. Honiton held on to clinch and unlikely victory and leave Okehampton wondering why they were not celebrating their third win in a row. Elliott was the man of the match after a master class in defending. This week away to East Budleigh. Players to meet 1.30pm at school gates.
