TAVISTOCK Young Farmers have joined forces once again with Children’s Hospice South West’s Yelverton Friends Group to host its third speed shear event.

The family-fun charity event on Sunday, August 26 at Lake Farm in Dousland is a shearing competition that attracts many competitors in a race against the clock. Each entry will be judged on the time taken to shear two sheep, as well as the quality of the cut before two contestants are selected from each of the categories for the finals.

Three’s A Crowd will be entertaining everyone with live music until midnight and there will be a barbecue, hog roast, cakes, tea, coffee, bar and the all important raffle.

Organisers have said that there will be plenty of car parking available but unfortunately no dogs allowed.

All profits will be donated to CHSW and the young farmers’ chosen charity Devon Air Ambulance.

The event is dedicated to the memory of John Bone a ‘larger than life character’ in the world of sheep shearing and a much valued member of previous committee’s for the event.

The event takes place at Lake Farm, Dousland, PL20 6LZ, by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Eggins.
