TEST your fitness on a rowing machine, take an online challenge or meet a neighbourhood police officer — it's all on offer this September at the Tavistock Community Information Morning.

The event, coordinated by West Devon Borough Council, returns to Bedford Square on Saturday, September 7 from 10am to 1.30pm.

More than 20 organisations are taking part including public services, charities, not-for-profit groups and local companies.

It is free and open to all.

One of the highlights promises to be the rowing machine fitness test organised by Tavistock Community Sports Centre.

People will be invited to set their fastest time over 500m with all those taking part getting a free guest pass for their efforts.

The person with the fastest time of the day will win one month's free membership for the centre's facilities including fitness suite, running track and outdoor pool.

For those wanting to take it a little easier, there is an 'online challenge' where residents can road test the Borough Council's new 'user-friendly' website.

People struggling to get to hospital and other medical appointments can get advice from Tavistock Area Support Services who may be able to help with transport solutions.

Members of the Tavistock neighbourhood policing team will also be on hand to chat with residents and hear about any concerns.

People can also quiz the borough council's waste and recycling officers on anything from recycling and waste collections to local reuse projects.

A host of other organisations will have stands at the event including Citizens Advice Bureau, Dartmoor National Park Authority, Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service and Devon County Council Adult & Community Learning – among many others.
