Torbay C 1

TAVISTOCK A hockey team started the New Year with their first win in the league.

Torbay put them under pressure from the whistle, but it was not long before Tavistock started to control the game. Cooley and Holden played well in the midfield, linking nicely with the forwards.

The first goal came with a free hit from just outside the D. Cowan Snr struck the ball well and Mackintosh steered it past the Torbay goalkeeper.

Osborne, the Tavistock goalkeeper, was hardly troubled in the first half but Torbay came close to scoring when they hit the post.

Tavistock had plenty of substitutes to use and made full advantage of the situation.

The second half started as the first half finished with Tavistock putting on the pressure. The second goal came as a result of a good break down the left wing and Kelly linking with Thompson. He nearly scored but instead ended up in goal himself and it was Holland who managed to put the ball in the goal for Tavistock.

After the second goal Tavistock seemed to sit back and let Torbay do all the work. As a consolation Torbay scored in the last minute but time ran out for the visitors enabling Tavistock to take the three points.

Tavistock are away to Okehampton this week. Push back is 1pm.
