IT was just over a year ago that the town's young footballers in the Tavistock Community Football Club sent out an invitation to their parents and supporters to 'Buy a Brick for Crowndale' to help raise funds to complete the huge new sports project down at Crowndale beyond Langsford Park.
Over the past twelve months lots of bricks have been bought, and the donations together with the generous grants given the club have made it possible to erect the smart new building on site to prepare the pitches for mini-football to start next season, and to lay out the grounds around the sports hall.
But there is still more to be done to complete the project and if the club is not to be burdened with debt that would make future use of the pitches excessively expensive, we must continue to raise money from all the friends of football for young people in Tavistock. We are therefore keeping the Buy a Brick scheme open for three more months — until the end of June.
Each brick bought will have the sponsor's name specially engraved on it, or the name of someone in the family, club or business. The named bricks costing £20 each will then be assembled into a wall next to the new building as a permanent memorial of all the generous donors to this project.
