A MAP eating camel, an apprentice angel and two incompetent soldiers will be among the characters found in a unique telling of the Christmas story in Tavistock.

The Tavistock Passion Players, a group made up of some of those who took part in the Tavistock Passion Play last Easter along with others, is putting on Angel At Large, a nativity-pantomime for all ages by Nigel Forde, co-founder of the Riding Lights Theatre Company.

The play is designed to appeal to children and adults alike, retelling the story of the nativity in pantomime form.

The story centres on the ‘political’ aspect of the nativity story with King Herod’s involvement and the adventures of Auriel, a young angel whose first mission is to be sent to Earth to make sure everything goes smoothly.

All profits from the play will go towards the expenses of a future production of the Tavistock Passion Play.

The performances take place on Friday, December 15 at 7pm and Saturday, December 16 at 3pm and 7pm at Tavistock Methodist Church. For further information call David Stranks at the church office on 01822 611049. Picture by James Bird.
