A TRAIN ride to Meldon on Dartmoor Railway?s Easter Egg Express was one of the highlights of the holiday weekend activities which took place at the station in Okehampton. Families travelled on the train comprising two first class carriages, and the latest rolling stock addition ? the directors? observation car from the Gloucester and Warwickshire Railwayn? all pulled by a magnificent Class 37 diesel locomotive. With attractions such as a bouncy castle, face painting, Easter egg hunt and egg painting and Easter bonnet competitions, the children were kept very busy. Mayor of Okehampton Cllr Tony Leech and Mayoress Sue, attended on Easter Sunday and presented prizes for the Easter bonnet competition. The mayor was surprised to be on the other end of a presentation, when John Love from Dartmoor Railway thanked him for all the support he had given over the years and handed over a much prized model locomotive of the Flying Scotsman. On Easter Monday the chief executive of West Devon Borough Council, David Incoll, judged the egg painting competition. Mr Incoll took the opportunity to endorse his continued interest in the fortunes of Dartmoor Railway and its attempts to attract more volunteers to refurbish rolling stock, train as guards and other jobs required to extend the services provided to the public.
