I THINK we are looking at the possible connection by rail between Tavistock and Plymouth in rather a short-sighted way. It is becoming obvious that the rail route through Dawlish and Teignmouth will soon become too expensive to maintain. An alternative rail route must be obtained. If the link — Plymouth, Tavistock to Exeter was restored we should have a direct link to the British Rail network, also to the Channel Tunnel. Plymouth could become an important container port. Ships calling there could be unloaded much earlier than if they had to sail to Southampton, Tilbury or Felixstowe. The containers could be quickly carried by our new rail link to many parts of Great Britain. One further thought, Tavistock Railway Station should not be on the periphery, but should be as close to the centre of the town as possible. Geoffrey Willetts Grenville Drive , Tavistock
