IN your article last week re the traffic calming measures on the Whitchurch Road, Sergeant Brendon Brookshaw was quoted as saying 'at the moment we are not aware of any accidents'.
There must be a breakdown in communications somewhere because the damage to my property was not only notified to the police by telephone but also in writing.
Furthermore, the Tuesday morning accident was attended by at least four police officers. Is it because no person was injured that these accidents do not seem to be recorded? What does it take for an accident to become part of the statistics?
No wonder we as residents cannot seem to get our elected representatives to move themselves on this issue if the police are unable to give a true picture of events.
I'm not suggesting that the police are negligent. For example, yesterday evening at 5.30pm there was an accident at Whitchurch crossroads involving two cars. One car was pushed backwards into a house wall. Luckily nobody was hurt. The police were not involved and are possibly unaware of the event, but it did happen.
Do we need a serious or deadly accident to happen before something is done? I can think of one good scheme to spend some of the 'new' money allocated to local government for road improvements on.
