RESIDENTS in a West Devon village are today (Thursday) being given the opportunity to gain access to a world of information, thanks to a visit by a pioneering vehicle commissioned by Devon County Council. The Devon in Touch roadshow is visiting Mary Tavy today, when visitors to the vehicle can use the internet and discover the benefits of going on line. The roadshow, aimed specifically at rural communities, started touring Devon in September 2003 and has so far visited more than 150 communities. Staff on board have been delighted by the response to the vehicle, particularly from older people keen to discover the fun of surfing the web and sending e-mails to friends and relatives at home and abroad. Lisa Wilson, roadshow manager, said: ?We have had some wonderful appreciative comments. Many people have said the trial session has persuaded them computers can play a useful role in their lives and should not be feared. ?Some have enjoyed it so much they have bought their own equipment.? The roadshow vehicle is equipped with six computers for free use by the public, plus facilities enabling BBC Radio Devon reporters to broadcast live from villages where the vehicle calls. The service was made possible through money from the Government and is a partnership between the council, Radio Devon and the Devon Fire and Rescue Service. A visit by the roadshow can be arranged by any community group of 12 or more adults by ringing 01392 383444 or e-mailing [email protected]">[email protected] The roadshow will be outside the Coronation Hall in Mary Tavy between 11am and 4pm.
