INTERESTED people are invited to join botanist Fiona Freshney, from the Devon Biodiversity Records Centre, on Wednesday, March 25 at Buckland Abbey to find out all about woodland plants.

The day, beginning at 10am and ending at 4.30pm, will give participants the skills and knowledge to identify and survey flowering plants, trees and ferns in these magical woodlands.

Fiona said: 'Woodlands, particularly our ancient woodlands, are Britain's most diverse terrestrial habitat supporting numerous attractive, inspiring and valuable species. Not only that, they play a vital role in reducing Co2 in the atmosphere and lock up ground water, reducing flood risk.

'But, we still know so little about so many of them. Now is the time to get out and take a look!'

The free event, which includes lunch, has been made possible through the Helping Hands for Heritage project, part of the Tamar Valley AONB.

Booking is essential for this event, as places are limited.
