I WRITE as a certified advanced motorist with the best
part of a million miles behind me, having driven on
every type of rural and urban road in the UK and
abroad.
I am also a resident of Whitchurch Road and I can
assert with confidence that it is a safe and relatively
easy road, with very few speeding issues. It most
certainly does not need to be 'calmed'.
No, the issue is not Whitchurch Road itself but a small
proportion of the drivers who use it.
I wish I had a pound for every time I have seen some
'dithering Doris' hover several feet from the end of a
side road, inch out at 5 miles per hour and then take
200 yards to get into second gear.
The only safe way to exit Priory Close towards
Whitchurch is to get your car in the correct position
on the road, look and listen (yes – wind down your
window!) and then move off decisively.
