ELECTORS will have two ballot papers when they cast their votes on Thursday, May 5. Polling for Devon County Council takes place on the same day as the general election. The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats each hold 22 seats on the 54-member council, Labour has four and there are three apiece for the Independents and the Liberal Party. In the West Devon area, the UK Independence Party joins the three main parties in contesting all four seats. In Tavistock Rural an Independent joins the fray. Tavistock Rural. Sitting councillor Liberal Democrat Roy Connelly faces a challenge from Philip Sanders, Conservative; Debra Hardy, Labour; and Doreen Mudge, UKIP. The sole Independent candidate is town and borough councillor Ted Sherrell. Okehampton Rural sees A four-way fight between Conservative Christine Marsh who will be out to hold her seat against Liberal Democrat borough member Kenneth Williams, who fought her in the county elections four years ago, Labour has Alison Young, of Bridestowe, and UKIP Quentin Kelly. Hatherleigh and Chagford sitting member Independent Bill Cann is standing down so it is a straight party fight between Conservative James McInnes, who sits on the borough, Liberal Democrat Anne Carter, Labour Brenda Lopez and UKIP Susan Bamford. Yelverton Rural. Liberal Democrat Gretta Madigan is not seeking re-election. The party candidate is Alan Hosking, Bill Hitchins stands for the Conservatives, Labour has Edward Lopez, and UKIP Andrew Mudge, the son of the UKIP Tavistock Rural contender.
