QUAKERS in Tavistock are encouraging both their members and the public to do their bit to limit the environmental damage of the planet. Tavistock Friends were inspired by a Hope Rising conference held in Exeter, which included representatives from several faith groups. Diana Brace, from the Tavistock Friends, said that a wasteful consumption of the world's riches is not only harming the planet but is also destructive of justice in human relationships. She said: 'We do need to live more simply, so that others may live. In the United Kingdom we are living as if we have three planets rather than the one we do live on.' The Friends are advocating that people should 'Think Green' and to make the most of the recycling services provided by West Devon Borough Council. Simple actions such as only filling the kettle with enough water for your needs when making tea, washing clothes at 30 degrees Centigrade rather than 40, turning the heating thermostat down, turning off lights which are not needed and using energy light bulbs, will all help. Diana added: The key message is that we can all do something and we can make a difference, however small. Remember that when the people lead, the leaders follow.'
