THE signs were there from the start as Tavy threw this tie away to the minnows of Lifton from Duchy 5.
With players turning up late expecting a 2.30pm kick-off to the pitch not having been cut, it all pointing to a disastrous day for Duchy 2 team Mary Tavy.
But it was not all bad from the start as Ben Stephens put another mark on his tallycard and James Philpotts contributed his effort to put the home side two up both with headers — but then the rot set in.
Stephens, normally so clinical in front of goal, saw his penalty well saved and Lifton realised the game was not over. A quickly taken free kick caught the home side unawares and the ball firmly rested in the Tavy net to make it 2-1.
Tavy made a few changes, resting the two front runners, but the decision came back to haunt them as they looked unlikely to make the game safe. With minutes remaining Lifton equalised.
With extra time and a golden goal to win both teams pressed and in the second period a looping shot from Lifton dropped into the net.
