STAFF at the Specsavers branch in Okehampton recently launched a competition to promote the necessity of youngsters getting their vision checked.

One in five children are thought to have an undetected eye problem, and with a child's vision having a profound effect on their learning, it is crucial that any problems are found as soon as possible.

Both the Okehampton and Launceston branches of Specsavers held a promotion which invited parents to get their children's eyes tested.

Each child that was brought in for an appointment would be automatically entered into a prize draw to win either a bicycle for the four to seven age range, or an iPod Touch for the nine to 13 age range.

The winner for the older age range was Okehampton student Jordan Walter, who was presented his iPod at the Okehampton branch by Specsavers retail director Julia Peggs and staff members Emma Gilbert and Amanda Crockett.
