Inspired by the well-known TV programme, children from Meavy Church of England Primary School staged their own ‘bake off’ to raise money for a new playground trolley.

Cakes of various shapes and sizes were baked and then carried carefully by the young bakers and stored in the school library to await judging.

Mrs Millar, a teacher at the school said: ‘The smell in the library was wonderful and the standard of baking was amazing.

‘Our school cooks judged the cakes by taste, texture and decoration’.

The winning entries were cupcakes, a farming scene and first place was an erupting volcano!

Cakes were sold to parents at the end of the day and a total of £163.47 was raised.
