IT was Tavistock Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club men's section's turn for glory last week when they won all three matches played.

Tuesday's County Trophy match against St Budeaux ended in a 100-62 win for Tavistock, with wins for rinks skipped by Eric Stevens (18-16), Bernie Downs (33-7) and Mike Allen (33-18).

The all important league match against Peverell Park away from home on Friday ended in 80-64 win for Tavistock which maintains their position at the top of the league.

Winning rinks were skipped by Eric Stevens 29-16, thanks to some good work by stand-in lead David Perry, and Mike Allen (24-14), with skip Ron Cooper's rink fighting out a creditable 16-16 draw.

The ladies' section played three matches, winning two and losing one.

Tuesday's away match at the Sir Walter Raleigh Green ended in a 54-27 win for Tavistock, with rinks skipped by Hazel Lovell (31-8) and Marion Allen (23-19) both winning.

Wednesday's match against City Bus ended on a 28-40 defeat, with Tavistock losing on both rinks.

Friday's away match on Plymouth Hoe ended in a 43-25 win for Tavistock, with winning rinks being skipped by Jenny Tremaine (26-9) and Henny Bawden (17-16).

Saturday saw a mixed team, plus over 20 guests, travel by coach to Teignmouth for a match which, for the most part, took place in glorious sunshine.

Tavistock won on five of the six rinks played and drew the sixth rink. Winning rinks were skipped by Marion Allen (21-15), Stuart Doidge (26-12), Rob Bowhay (25-13), Norman Paramor (22-19) and Mike Allen (21-15) — thanks to some good bowling from the front end pair, Joyce Drew and Jill Lacayo and despite the fact that Mike never gave the rink number three cause to remove his marking chalk from his pocket!

The club individual championships reached a crucial stage — members now know that the club will have new singles champions at the end of the season as both the men's and ladies' reigning champions (Richard Curtis, beaten by Der Saunders and Marion Allen, beaten by Jean Flay), went out of the competition during last week's matches.
