Tavistock Ladies 0

Plymouth Ladies 0

TAVISTOCK ladies' 1st hockey team gave another good team performance last week. Their passing game was much improved and allowed them to dominate.

Tavistock won some early penalty corners but could not convert any. Good passing down both sides of the pitch allowed strong crosses to be put in by Laura Armstrong, Sue Cork and Louise Bott.

Despite constant pressure on the Plymouth goal, Tavistock could just not find the back of the net. Plymouth were dangerous on the break but good defending as always by Mary Johnson and Fiona Dunn prevented any goals. The home side were awarded a number of penalty corners but were thwarted by the quickness of the Tavistock defence.

The second half was much the same as the first with Tavistock applying pressure to the Plymouth goal. More penalty corners were awarded but none was good enough to give Tavistock the lead.

Melanie Vaggers had another good game and did much to help work the ball into the D but no-one could get the finishing touch.

In the last ten minutes, Plymouth stepped up the pressure and Tavistock had some tense moments in defence, but with Julie McGowan having another good game in goal Plymouth failed to score.

Tavistock are in league action again this week at home to Plymouth University.

CALLINGTON exerted pressure in the first half but were held off by the Tavistock ladies second team defence — which included two players who had not played for five years. Well done, Mel and Donna.

Sue Gawman in goal made some good saves but was beaten just at the end of the first half.

In the second half Tavistock came back at Callington and there was some good play by the forwards but the goal was elusive. Callington's second came from a skirmish in the goalmouth
