IN last week's Times you asked for a response ref the fancy name of North Tawton Eco Park (or real name solar panel farm) at North Tawton. I served on West Devon's planning committee for 20 years until four years ago, part of that time as vice chair. One is expected to come to the meeting with an open mind before a decision is made after debate. On the above plan mentioned in your paper, I would have found it very difficult not to have my mind made up before this is debated. It's well known most of West Devon's land is of low quality, but North Tawton sits on some of the finest quality agricultural land in Devon — or even the country. What a sin to cover this fine agricultural growing land with solar panels — it should be left for the feeding of the world. The transport footprint of the food grown there to the world won't be a problem though as many of them are already living with us and they do need feeding, and Gregory's transport is next door. Are many people aware that God stopped making new agriculture land at the point of creation millions of years ago? But he did give humans a challenge that if they wanted more they had to push back the sea, but pushing back the sea will be a bit difficult at North Tawton. Dennis Bater Hatherleigh I WISH to support the planning application for the eco park in North Tawton. The applicants have outlined everything that could avoid objections to this plan. May I point out that the land is not lost to agriculture as sheep can still graze beneath the panels. The public gain a circular path to enjoy the environment. When a site suitable for such development is identified anywhere in the British Isles it must be used as wherever the power is fed into the national grid it benefits the whole country not just the locality. This country suffers from far worse blights than solar panels. The development is so far from Dartmoor as to be barely noticeable. To those who object nowhere would be suitable!
