OVER five tonnes of waste and card were cleared in just four hours by a dedicated team of street cleaners after the Goose Fair in Tavistock.
After thousands of fairgoers left the town and stall-holders had finally packed away, West Devon Borough Council moved in for the big clean-up operation.
The council’s contractors, FCC Environment, collected five and a half tonnes of waste and managed to separate two tonnes of card for recycling.
Starting at 2am, the 20 strong crew worked against the clock to make the streets tidy again by dawn in time for the early commuters to get to work.
Waste was cleared from the roads, pavements, park and residential gardens in the centre of town.
Their efforts left the streets spick and span for residents and businesses returning to normal after the town’s busiest day of the year.
Tavistock town councillor Lyn Roberts said: My husband and I were enormously impressed with how clean the town was after what was a very busy Goose Fair.
‘I would like to congratulate the team of workers that achieved this.’
