THE Battle of the Bands, currently taking place at The Wharf in Tavistock, is drawing talented musicians of all ages, eager to scoop some excellent prizes and widen their public profile.
Angela Court, owner of The Wharf, said the event, which has now reached the quarter final stage, has been 'great fun'.
'There's been a good response from local performers and there's been a huge range of music, with a good range of ages taking part.
'Everyone seems to be really enjoying themselves — particularly the younger bands — they've been really chuffed to find they've had a dressing room and they've come off stage with these huge cheesy grins, it's been great.'
Through to the first quarter final are Ready Made, Can Kama, Sounds Like a Plan and Heart in One Hand.
The second quarter final will feature Icaruss, Lack of Discipline, Tranzlucent and the Adventures of . . .
The lucky winners of the competition will win a recording session at a premier studio, a promotional DVD, a gig pack and £500 to spend in a major music store. They will also be invited to open the Tavistrock 'n Blues Festival at The Wharf on October 17.
Angela said: 'I've got music industry people coming down here to judge the semi final and the final — we're trying to be as professional as possible about the competition — we're all looking forward to what should be a couple of great nights.'
Anyone who enjoys live music and a great atmosphere should enjoy a night out at the remaining sessions — the events start at 7.30pm with the music starting from 8pm.
The quarter finals of the competition are due to take place on August 5 and 6, with the semi final on Friday August 15 and the final on Saturday August 16.
The Wharf barbecue will be available for refreshments and the bar will be open throughout.
