THE photograph of a band on the vicarage lawn at Tavistock, which featured in the 'Those Were The Days' section in the issue of April 11, has sparked some interest.

The picture was not taken between the wars, as was stated, but dates from 1949/50 and shows the Salvation Army Band.

A reader called in and identified all those pictured.

They are, standing at back, left to right: Ivor Dolbear, Harry Tucker, Dick Collins, Dennis Towl, Reg Martin.

Middle row, standing: Bill Stephens, Cyril Tucker, Sam Leyman, Basil Fry, Les Tucker, Wilf Dolbear, Bill Tucker.

Seated: Harry Hoar Rt Bandmaster, CO Major Albert Males, bandmaster Len Tucker, Janet Males, Bill Young.

The two boys at the front are Devis Crocker and Mervyn Collins.

Ivan Sidgreaves emailed the Times from Horrabridge to say: 'The uniforms are those of a Salvation Army Band and the SA crest is clearly visible on the bass drum in the foreground, though I have no way of knowing if this is the local SA band.'
