MEMBERS of a Tavistock-based band are setting their sights on America, following the launch of their first album in the States.

The Adventures of . . . comprises lead vocalist and guitarist Adam Hanington, bass guitarist and backing vocalist Will Gee and drummer Drew Wright.

In the two years the band has been together they have played gigs all over the country, building an enthusiastic following.

But they are now hoping to hit the big time, having signed their first contract with Tori Amos' label, Transmission Galactic.

Adam said: 'We found out through a friend of mine that Tori Amos was starting a record label and was looking for acts, so we set about making something up.'

Adam said The Adventures of . . . was very much a concept band, using costumes and a sense of theatre and performance.

They constructed a special box, made to look like an ancient book, in which they included CDs of their work, photos and promotional material, sealed it with sealing wax and sent it off.

Adam said: 'After a couple of weeks we heard back and they really liked it. We met with Tori's husband, Mark, he said he'd like to hear us play, then out of the blue he said he'd like to record an album.'

The band's album 'Top Hats and Scary Tales' was released in America two weeks ago, distributed by Warner Bros.

Adam said: 'It's been really exciting, it's been amazing for us, and we are getting more and more coverage in the States.

'We will be going to America to do radio promotion in the next few months.'

Before the The Adventures of . . . fly off, local fans will have an opportunity to see them play, when they perform at Jack Chams bar in Tavistock on Monday June 4.

Adam said: 'We haven't played in Tavistock for quite a while now, so it's nice to get back here and play where so much of our support is from.'
