LAST Friday, the development management committee of the Dartmoor National Park Authority granted planning permission for the Huckworthy hydro scheme application, which has featured on your pages more than once in 2012.

As co-ordinator and a lead campaigner against the scheme, I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who supported us through these weeks and shared in all the ups and downs. Our efforts brought to the attention of everybody the threat to the River Walkham and the existence of a hidden Dartmoor heritage asset which will sadly now be lost forever under concrete.

From national bodies like the Council for British Archaeology, local organisations such as the Dartmoor Preservation Association and the South West Rivers Association, and the local residents of our immediate area we drew over 120 objections to the scheme and to them we owe our thanks.
