PLEASE may I, through the courtesy of your newspaper, thank everyone in Tavistock who contributed to the NSPCC collection recently and helped us to raise £588 for this very important and, sadly, much needed cause.
Special emphasis currently is on raising funds to support Childline, now paired with the NSPCC. This service is much used and often calls cannot be taken due to lack of funds.
This is tragic, because when a child has plucked up courage to make a call, it must be devastating if they cannot be answered or counselled.
This is just one of the many functions of the NSPCC in our area. Others are the Child Witness Support Scheme and so very many other issues which deal with the protection and welfare of children.
With very many thanks again to everyone who helped our collection, especially Morrison's Store, the Wharf and the Bedford Hotel.
We are desperately in need of new supporters to help raise funds.
If you feel you can help please phone 01822 611456.

* THE Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in the Callington, Gunnislake and Calstock areas, raised the fantastic figure of £5,598. 23 during November.
Despite the recession, and the sad loss of some local businesses, this amount is up over £200 from last year.
A heartfelt thank you to all who helped collecting this year, and to all who contributed so generously.
