I READ that we are all to receive a rate rebate of £3.83 next year. Thank you West Devon for this marvellous gesture. But, I ask, whom do I thank for my village hall having to pay business rates this year?
David Incoll, the chief executive of West Devon Borough Council, has informed me that the members of the board that made this decision were, Mrs Sally Monk (Walkham). Mr Roger Mathew (Tavistock South) and Mr David Whitcomb (Mary Tavy).
As the council only records the decisions that are taken, and not what is actually said at these meetings, at least two out of these three elected councillors must have voted for this charge. Perhaps the voters in these three wards should ask their councillors how they voted. The answers may be very interesting.
