AS many people may know, the Tavistock and District Mencap Raft Race, due to be held on July 11, has regretfully been cancelled. This is because of administrative problems and subsequent health and safely insurance implications.
It is naturally very disappointing because this event has proved to be increasingly popular both as a fun day and as a charity fund raising event.
It may, however, be possible to continue the race next year, under the auspices of another organisation, which is being discussed.
In the meantime, may I take the opportunity of thanking all those people who have so kindly supported us over the years by either taking part or helping with various organisational requirements? In particular, Morwellham Quay, Walrus Marine with their safety boats, Calstock Boat Owners and Peeps Leisure for arranging several rescue hovercraft for this year.

Without their generous help such an event cannot take place.
