AFTER the first-year success of its award winning scheme, Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership celebrated with a ?thank you? to its staff. Shopkeepers and post office workers from the Tamar Valley at the Tamar Belle were thanked on November 29 for their involvement in the Tamar Valley Carnet Scheme. The scheme recently won the Best Marketing awards at the first ever National Community Rail awards. It has been running for 18 months and is now being used as a template for similar schemes elsewhere. Tamar Valley Carnets are books of ten discounted tickets for single journeys on the scenic Tamar Valley line, only available at shops and post offices in the valley. Lyn Winter from Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership said: ?This is a fantastic example of community rail in practice ? local solutions to local issues. ?Without the continued support of all the participating businesses, this scheme wouldn?t have been as successful as it has and we wanted to say thank you to everyone involved.? Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership works to promote the scenic Tamar Valley Line between Plymouth and Gunnislake.
