THE Bere Alston Branch of the Royal British Legion would like to thank all the residents of the Bere Peninsula, who turned out for this year's Remembrance Day commemorations. Particular thanks must go to Captain Eric Swale, who represented New Zealand, for the loss of its troops in the Bere Ferrers Rail accident of September 24, 1917. Thanks must go to all the children and their leaders, in their respective groups, who contributed to the parade. A mention must also go to the pupils of Bere Alston Primary School, who were asked by Rev. Nick Law, to sing the Lord's Prayer. Their singing was much appreciated by the congregation. John Whitworth Secretary Bere Alston RBL MAY I, through your newspaper, express my grateful thanks to all who contributed towards the £2,947.76 collected in the Lamerton area, for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal this year; the extraordinary generosity of the givers, the willing helpers and, not least, your newspaper for its support. B J Austin Lamerton
