ON behalf of the Lions Club of Tavistock, I would like to thank all those who braved the rather damp weather on Saturday evening to come to the Meadows to enjoy our annual firework display.
I think you will agree that it was one of the best that we have ever had and I have to congratulate and thank the locally based Two Tigers Fireworks company who staged it on our behalf under such difficult circumstances.
Thanks also to the Tavistock Town Council for allowing us the use of the Meadows, the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and St. John's Ambulance for providing emergency cover and to John Collacott who supplied the sound system.
On a disappointing note, I have to report that once again our advertising banner on the wall at the end of the Meadows had been tampered with and if it hadn't been for the fact that we had attached it to the poles with garden wire, it would have been stolen as all the support ropes had been cut!
We have already had two banners stolen this year during the carnival which means that if we decide to replace them it will reduce the amount of money that we are able to donate to local charities. So can I please, please ask the person or persons who are doing this to stop this as it is depriving organisations such as Children's Hospice South West of much needed funds.
On a brighter note, we would like to return a Spiderman scarf to the youngster who lost it at the display so if one of his parents can pop into the Union pub in Tavistock, it is being held behind the bar awaiting collection — that's if Frances has not taken a liking to it!
