WITH most qualifiers and match-play finished for the season, Okehampton Golf Club ladies? section played a Texas Scramble on Wednesday week.

This is a fun competition with teams of three adding their handicaps together, playing a medal, with all three players taking their shots from the same place, which is the best positioned ball from the previous shot. When the 18 holes are completed, 10% of the handicap is taken off the total score.

The winning team of Dawn Phillott, Sylvia Caunter (captain) and Maureen Howe had the best score of 67, second by half a point with 67.5 were Lyn Atkinson, Lyn Hazelton and Doris Jewell and the third team was Cherry James, Chris Stevens and Sally Griffin with 69.7.

Friday saw the lady veterans going to Tiverton to play in the County Open, which incorporated the Killard Levy Trophy.

Conditions were difficult with 29 points winning the trophy, Okehampton?s nominated pair Doris Jewell and Pat Kirby were not too far out of the prizes.

But keeping Okehampton?s name in the prizes were Trish Vick and Marcia Jones who won second place in the open competition with 30 points (winners had 32).
