MID Devon Hunt Pony Club tetrathletes had a great weekend at the Spooners and West Dartmoor competition held at Tavistock last weekend.

They showed the value of a season's hard training as they returned with lots of rosettes and personal bests all round.

Thomas Bayley finished third in the mini boys, having personal bests in all three phases and running the fastest time in his class for the fifth event in a row.

In the same class, Laurie Bilton had PBs in the shoot and run. Laurie's younger brother, Robert, showed great promise for the future, finishing second in the biathlon class.

Five Mid Devon girls competed in the novice junior class, with Rosie Lyon Smith doing brilliantly to finish fourth, with Emily Colling just behind her in fifth place. Rosie had PBs in the shoot and the swim; team mate Elinor Townshend also managed a PB shoot, while Kate Bilton had her best swim and run of the season.

Fay Hirst completed the girls' great form with a PB in the pool.

The XC course proved to be slightly more challenging than it had appeared with Emily and Elinor having just one stop each, Rosie a couple of stops and Fay just finding one fence to catch out her horse Buffy.

At the end of the day, the girls had done brilliantly to finish fourth out of the 11 teams competing at the event.
