TAVISTOCK Methodist Circuit is joining in the celebration of the tercentenary of the birth of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism.

As part of these celebrations, the 11 chapels of the Tavistock Methodist Circuit are holding a flower festival at Tavistock Methodist church from June 20 to 22.

The theme of the festival is ?A Journey of Faith?, reflecting on the life and work of John Wesley.

He made his first of four visits to Tavistock in 1746, when his brother Charles also visited. When he last visited the town in August 1789 and in his 87th year, he preached at the Methodist Meeting House at the top of West Street, just a few yards from the present day church.

Junior members of the Tavistock church have been busy making a model of Tavistock based on the 1750 Dela Fontaine engraving and the 1755 John Wynne map. The model represents very much how Tavistock would have appeared to John Wesley during his first visit here in 1746.

On the Saturday evening at 7.30pm there will be a further reflection of his life?s work with a ?Music and Drama presentation on the Life of John Wesley?, by members of the circuit. A dynamic mix of storytelling, music and drama.

Throughout the weekend there will be visiting organists and light refreshment will be available. All donations from the event are for Methodist circuit funds and the Unicef Children of Iraq Appeal.
