Pretoria Handicap Cup Group One MORETONHAMPSTEAD A were at home to Crediton and after a very hard fought match Moretonhampstead came out 6-1 winners. In the next match Crediton were at home to Okehampton C, this was a really close and hard fought match with first Okehampton going ahead winning the first doubles in 3 legs. Crediton drew level in the singles when Ron Trott beat Jill Edwards. Maureen Venton put Okehampton ahead when she beat Margaret Tucker with the score all level at 3-3. Maureen Venton had to win the last singles against Ron Trott, winning in the third leg for a close 4-3 win for Okehampton C. In the next match to complete the group Okehampton C were at home to Moretonhampstead A, Moretonhampstead won the first doubles in straight sets. In the first singles Maureen Venton beat Ken Underhill in 3legs, Ken could not overcome the handicap. Peter Richardson won the next singles, beating a very determined Bill Thompson; Peter went on to complete a fine maximum. Bill Thompson did well to beat Ken Underhill in his last singles 14-21, 21-14, and 27-25. Moretonhampstead A went on to win the match 5-2. Moretonhampstead A now has to play the runners up in Group Two and Okehampton C will have to play the winners of Group Two in the quarter final. Group Two Tavistock A were at home to Lewdown. Richard Rose did well for Lewdown beating both Peter Hicks and Lorraine Robinson, who moved up from Tavistock B. Peter Nicholson did well to overcome his heavy handicap to win all his games to give Tavistock A a 5-3 win. In the next match Lewdown were at home to Tavistock B, Lewdown had a runaway victory 6-1.The last match in Group Two is Tavistock A v Tavistock B which is still to be played. As yet there are no matches played in Group Three or Group Four.
