THE tenth and final  round of tennis in the Plymouth and District League has now been played and the teams are aware of their positions in the respective leagues.  

Division one: Men's A (Linden Hardisty and Simon Prout, Phil Ruse and Josh Brown) v Ivybridge A (away), won 6-2, points 77. Position first. This was the only team in the whole league to have won all their games.

Division two: Men's  B ( Tony Du'Gay and Luke Wakley, Gareth George and Phil Harbottle) v Mannamead B (away), won 8-0, points 44. Position fourth.

Division three: Men's C (Bernard Mowle and Ray Hinton, Matt Smith and Ron Skinner) v Plympton A (home), draw 4-4, points 45. Position fourth. Men's D ( Bill Sparks and Jeremy Hyde, Rick Read and Phil Snell) v Plymstock A (away), lost 8-1, points 31. Position fifth.

Division six: Men's E (Peter Bradley and John Stewart, George Newman and Alex Samborne) v Plympton C (home), won 5-4, points 48. Position third.

Division seven: Men's F (John Mulley and Paul Jackson, Jack Glover and Josh Leeson)  v Plympton D (away), lost 3-7, points 57. Position first and the team will be promoted to Division six. Jack and Josh, two young players, new to league tennis, both played particularly well and will be a welcome asset to next year's tennis league.

Division  one: Ladies A (Amanda Goodison and Hilary Picton, Sarah Lucas and Alice Anstey) v Devonshire A (home), lost 2-6, points 33. Position third.

Division three: Ladies B (Roma McMahon and Claire Glanville, Jane Colgate and Olga Rogers) v St Budeaux B (away), lost 4-5, points 51. This game was a battle compounded by poor lighting at the end of a long evening. In spite of this loss, the team was second in their league and  will be promoted to Division two.

Division five: Ladies C (Wendy George and Josie Gerhold, Lucy Bozward and Pamela Riley) v Whiteford Road (home).

This rescheduled match is still to be played but the team, presently in fourth position with 35 points is secure in Division five.

The men's captain, Phil Harbottle and the ladies captain, Amanda Goodison congratulate and thank the teams for all their hard work and enthusiasm this season.
