Okehampton Columbines 0

OKEHAMPTON Columbines hockey team put up a gritty performance against a side which easily beat them earlier in the season.

With only ten players able to travel to Weymouth, Columbines knew they had their work cut out and all gave maximum effort. Rene Brown played excellently up front constantly keeping pressure on the Weymouth defence.

Okehampton were stronger in attack in the first half with Sue Stanbury and Alex Collins stringing together some good moves.

After an injury to one of their team, Okehampton were virtually down to nine players and had to defend for much of the second half.

Judith Grant had a strong game at right back and Elaine Morgan and Paula Gibbs tackled well to keep the Weymouth forwards at bay, but 'man' of the match was Sharon Parsons in goal who made some excellent saves including a crucial one in the last few minutes.

This game should give Okehampton confidence in their remaining league fixtures.

This Saturday Okehampton Columbines have their coffee morning in the church hall followed by a league fixture at home against Chudleigh in the afternoon.
