THE drop in temperature had a direct effect on the scoring for the February Men's Individual Stableford at Okehampton Golf Club, with only eleven competitors breaking the par score of 36 pts.

Six of these were in Division 1 where John Haslem's 41 pts was the outstanding score of the day. Pete Murphy's 39 pts ensured he was in the places for the second individual competition running. Simon Hern just did enough to beat Ian Wilson in Division 2 while Paul Mossman was the clear winner in Division 3 with 40 pts.

Division 1 (42 players) — 1 J Haslem(5) 41 pts, 2 P Murphy(10) 39 pts, 3 J Leonard(10) 38 pts last 9.

Division 2 (37 players) — 1 S Hern(17) 39 pts, 2 I Wilson(17) 38 pts, 3 K Peckham(15) 37 pts.

Division 3 (31 players) — P Mossman (25) 40 pts, 2 I Radnor (20) 37 pts, 3 N Redman(23) 36 pts last 6.

Ladies through to next round: Okehampton Ladies hosted Torquay for their first round match in the "Mail On Sunday" competition on Friday 13th February. Okehampton had a convincing 4-0 win and will proceed confidently to the second round. The team, captained by Dawn Phillott were Marcia Holwell, Marcia Jones, Penny Deakin and Amanda Clifford.

The ladies played a Stableford Qualifier on Wednesday 18 February. Thelovely weather and good course conditions resulted in excellent scoring.

The winner in the silver division was Amanda Clifford (16) with 37 points, Dawn Phillott(11) was second with 36 points.

In the bronze division Jenny Hutchinson(22) was the winner with a magnificent score of 42 points, Doris Jewell(29) was second with 34 points.

Juniors brave the cold: A change in the weather saw 13 juniors face a biting north east wind on Thursday 19th February for an individual stableford.

This was the first junior competition of the year and the expected rustiness did not affect everyone as some superb scores were made. Ricky Wooldridge won the CONGU

Division with 41 pts, Oliver Kirby won Band A with 37 pts and Kieran Mitchell won Band B with 43 pts.
