OKEHAMPTON Rotary Club is teeing off with a swinging idea ? a fun day with a serious mission.
The club is gearing up to hold its first ever charity golf day and, if it is a success, it could be the first of many more.
The event will take place at Ashbury Hotel Golf Course on Wednesday, July 16.
Okehampton Rotarians are actively seeking sponsorship and prizes in order to help local youth and sports charities.
The aim is to maximise the opportunity to donate to deserving causes within the area.
?The focus for this will be youth and sport,? said Rotarian Mike Luxton.
?We are hoping to raise in excess of £2,000, all being well ? which is a lot of money for one day,? he said.
Mr Luxton is hoping individuals or organisations will come forward to sponsor a hole.
?Six of the 18 holes have been designated prize holes with a sum of £50 being requested to each one. For the remaining 12 holes a sum of £25 is being requested,? he said.
?Each hole will be conspicuously signed to identify the sponsor. The sponsors will also be invited to provide their own advertising if possible, which will be erected adjacent to the sponsored green.?
Mr Luxton said the event was limited to 30 teams of four at a cost of £80 ? this includes golf, buggies and lunch. He said while every effort would be made to accommodate sponsors? teams, early notification was advisable.
?All the money received will be made available for the benefit of local sporting and youth charities. With people?s help we can join together in helping deserving causes within the local community.?
