IF you go down to the Meadows in Tavistock between 11am to 1pm on Wednesday, April 20, you can be sure of a big surprise!

As the song goes: 'For every bear that ever there was, will gather there, for certain because, that's the day' the Tavistock Area Children's Centre are having a Teddy Bears' Picnic.

The children's centre is part of the national charity Barnardo's and part of the government's Sure Start initiative. As it is the Easter holidays organisers are hoping that, apart from the 0-5 year-olds and their mothers coming along, older children will come to.

Maggi Calvert from the centre said: 'The idea behind the event is to introduce more families to the children's centre. It's also a great excuse to be out in the fresh air!

'You don't have to book a place, just turn up with a picnic and your teddy, or another toy, and join in the fun. Regardless of weather conditions we will be meeting near the bandstand for singing, games and a hunt in the park for some of our teddies who have gone into hiding!'
