DARTMOOR Rescue Team in Tavistock were called by the police just before 9pm on Sunday to assist ambulance personnel in locating and recovering an injured horse rider in dense woodland near Bere Alston.

The casualty was located by a police search dog and treated by a paramedic. As access was difficult due to the narrow and steep tracks team members had to carry the casualty on a stretcher a long distance to the four-wheel drive ambulance.

The incident lasted two hours and was another example of good teamwork involving DSRT Tavistock, Devon and Cornwall Police and West Country Ambulance.
